Guidance for professionals in Gloucestershire working with young people with mental health or emotional wellbeing concerns

Are you interested in Department for Education (DfE) funded Designated Mental Health Lead training?

National Educational Leaders in Mental Health Training

The DfE are keen to encourage further take up of the grant across the country, as having a trained senior mental health lead in a setting would support the whole school/college approach and therefore the mental health and wellbeing support the children and young people can benefit from. This is a great opportunity for schools and colleges to access funded training which offers full flexibility to meet the needs of the individual setting.

We are pleased to announce that schools and colleges that have already claimed a DfE grant are now eligible for a second grant if their trained senior mental health lead has left the post. This is in recognition that the previous lead may not have had the opportunity to implement their learning and embed a whole school/college approach (WSCA) to mental health and wellbeing.

This is a three-day course for Headteachers, Deputies and other Senior Leaders covering culture, ethos, staff wellbeing. Upon completion, participants will achieve a Level 4 Certificate in Mental Health Aware Leadership (Educational Leader) in addition to accreditation as a National Educational Leader in Mental Health.

The attached flyer has been updated to reflect this change to the DfE grant offer.

Full details of the grant and how to apply can be found here

Advanced Mental Health Lead Training

Three-day course for established mental health leads taking them to the next level and extending their skills. Upon completion, participants will achieve a Level 4 Certificate in Mental Health Aware Leadership.

This second programme is for Mental Health Leads who sit outside the senior leadership positions. The aim is to explore topics relating to the Designated Mental Health Leader role in more depth and develop your skills, knowledge and understanding. Delivered by local providers (Educational Psychologists and GHLL practitioners), the training lasts three days and covers the full DfE specification for the role.

Both courses require participants to complete some self-study (in a topic that is relevant to your setting) and keep a portfolio to gain evidence of meeting the requirements of a lead and become certified. To register for these courses and learn more about how to apply for the £1200 DfE grant, please go to:
