About

The University of Gloucestershire plays host to a vibrant academic community where creative research comes together with cutting-edge scholarship to facilitate the needs of partners from business, community, education, government, media and cultural organisations. The 2008 Research Assessment Exercise (RAE) for UK Higher Education demonstrated that the University exhibited work of ‘world-leading’ quality in five of its research areas. With a strong track record in applied research, the University draws on a variety of business and consultancy links to create mutually beneficial partnerships, to secure sponsorship, and to facilitate the effective dissemination of research. The University is distinctive amongst institutions of its kind in giving high priority to business development, research consultancy and to close collaboration with its local and regional communities.

The University’s Faculty of Applied Sciences is situated at Oxstalls campus on the outskirts of Gloucester and houses over 50 academic staff. The Faculty has a strong track record in collaborative, evaluative and multi-disciplinary research and related projects have utilised a range of methodologies including survey research, case-study, and policy analysis. Members of staff have extensive experience of carrying out research and evaluation in the areas of physical education and health and well-being. Wider projects have been commissioned by a range of national and international agencies, including:

  • The World Health Organisation;

  • The European Union;

  • The Economic and Social Research Council;

  • The Arts and Humanities Research Council;

  • The Department for Children, Schools and Families;

  • The Department for Education and Skills;

  • The Department of Health;

  • The Laureus Foundation;

  • Sports Leaders UK.
